The Cause:</p>
<h1>The Pinofranqueado fire</h1>

From May 18 to 21, 2023, a devastating forest fire swept through the regions of Hurdes and Gata, razing more than 10,000 hectares of land. Affecting municipalities such as Pinofranqueado, Torrecilla de los Ángeles, Descargamaría, Hernán Pérez, Cadalso and Torre de Don Miguel, this tragedy highlighted the fragility of our ecosystem.
The Problem:</p>
<h2>Pine forest without drinking water</h2>
<p>
The catastrophe left a devastating trail: ash and mud in the reservoir resulting in an unacceptable water supply for Pinofranqueado and its villages, which led to the water supply being cut off to its inhabitants a few days after the fires. The water, turbid and with a pH altered by the alkaline ash, put public health at risk, in addition, the existing facilities were insufficient to deal with this type of water, requiring a quick and effective solution to be able to reestablish the supply to the almost 1,700 inhabitants of Pinofranqueado.
The Provincial Council of Cáceres proposed several solutions, the most immediately viable for the population being the Soluwater mobile reverse osmosis plant. This advanced technology would allow the effective removal of inorganic particles, restoring the water quality to regulatory standards in just a few hours. The contaminated water was of a special type, containing humic acid, tannins and ash lye.
The Solution:</p>
<h2>Renting a mobile water treatment plant</h2>
<p>
The temporary installation of the RO-BW Mobile Water Treatment Plant brought hope to Pinofranqueado. A collaborative effort between the Cáceres Provincial Council, Pinofranqueado City Council, residents and Soluwater enabled the creation of an alternative supply system, ensuring that every drop was safe and drinkable. As the community came together to face adversity, the RO-BW proved its capability and reliability in the face of the ongoing demand from the Pinofranqueado community, not only in the emergency, but also to inspire proactive measures in water management in the future, due to the possibility of being able to replicate the specifications of our process.
